We are Between The Frets
Founded in 2016, Between The Frets started as a musical journey with founding members Bryan Cannon and Paul Dennis Embry. A meeting with Steve Haynes in 2019 added Steve’s talent to the mix. Hailing from Owensboro Kentucky and Newburgh Indiana, the band has played both sides of the Ohio River. The music is a mix of Americana, Alternative Folk, and Roots Rock. Although they do play a few deep-cut covers, you will also find poignant original songwriting in their performances. Songs about life, being in love, losing love, happiness, and sorrow. Observations on subjects and feelings we all encounter in our lives. Avoiding the usual acoustic guitar singer-songwriter genre, Between The Frets will leave you not only contemplating and reflecting but smiling and swaying to the beat. Between The Frets believes if you have a good song and serve the song well as a musician, you will also serve your audience.
Paul Dennis Embry
From a young age Paul Dennis Embry felt the need to write and perform. At 16 he formed his first cover band with like-minded friends. As time passed a unique music foundation was created. As he moved between rock, blues and bluegrass his own sound and songwriting skills took shape. Paul enjoys playing many instruments, however to him it’s all about the song first and foremost. Paul, along with Bryan Cannon formed “Between The Frets” in 2016. A chance meeting with musician Steve Haynes welcomed Steve into the group. Paul lives in western Kentucky and has two solo albums. 2019‘s Cliche Love Songs and 2020’s Finding The Ocean.
Bryan Cannon
Bryan grew up in southern Indiana and developed a love for music at an early age. He started to learn guitar at the age of 8 but his hands were too small and frustration forced him to wait a fews years. At the age of 11, he pick up the guitar again and hasn’t stopped playing since. Some lessons from his uncle, Bruce Stevenson (a member of the southern Indiana band “The Corvettes”) gave him the foundation on which to build his skills. In Junior High and High School, Bryan helped lead music for his church youth group. In College, he played guitar for a campus ministry of which he was a member. Church music has remained an important use of his musical skills. In 2006, Bryan meet Dennis Embry while they both severed as members of a Praise Band. A friendship began and after that Praise Band ended, they continued to get together to play music. Their common interest in writing and performing original music sparked the beginning of Between The Frets.
Steve Haynes
Steve Haynes started his musical interests in the 1970’s in Owenboro, KY playing guitar in several cover bands, including the Phoenix Band with Dennis Embry. After a long hiatus of 30 plus years for college, career, and family, Steve began playing guitar and bass guitar for his local church’s worship band after the departure of some key players. Steve spent 6 years playing under the guidance of 3 different Worship Leaders to refresh his guitar skills and to learn to play bass guitar. Due to a chance meeting with Dennis Embry (from 1974) and Bryan Cannon in 2019, Steve joined Between The Frets. Steve is now primarily a bass guitar player and continues to develop his bass skills and repertoire with several styles of music.
